The influence of tomato processing waste supplementation on milk yield and quality was evaluated in Comisana ewes. Ninety-six ewes were equally allocated to two groups: C (control) and TPW, receiving 23% of total DMI as tomato processing waste silage. No significant differences between the two groups were found for milk yield and quality (fat and protein content, curdling properties), BCS and live weight gain, whereas the milk of group TPW presented a lower stearic acid and cholesterol content than group C. We conclude that the inclusion of TPW in the diet of lactating ewes has no influence on milk yield and quality, but reduces the feeding cost, thus it should be encouraged whenever possible.
