The regulatory framework concerning materials and objects intended to come into contact with food is composed of several regulatory acts, and still today it revolves around EC Reg. No. 1935/2004 (2004), the reference text for the sector and in which, among other things, the general requirements valid for all food contact materials (FCMs) are set out. The regulation of Food Contact Materials (FCMs) is internationally governed by various domestic laws aimed primarily at protecting consumer health and ensuring the safety of substances used in these materials, making food products safe for consumption. Although regulations differ from country to country, the shared goal is to prevent harmful substances from migrating into food.
