Words are more than “building blocks” for constructing texts. Through words, the speaker’s worldviews and beliefs emerge; through words, speakers co-construct their identity in interaction with others and the world, making sense of the world around them. These words may be at the centre of the language-system, but they may also be at the margins, on the periphery of the system, woven into associative networks.
