On the letters 16 and 19 of the fifteenth book of Cicero's familiares and the philosophical problems that Cicero discusses both jokingly and polemically with his correspondent Cassio Longino, the future Caesar’s killer recently turned epicurean. It is possible that these disputes hide a political significance in relation to the difficult choices made by the parties struggling in the years of Caesar's domain: so philosophy provides them with the language of thinking and choosing.
