Giuseppe Maria Pancrazi (1704-1760) published his Antichità Siciliane in Naples (Napoli 1751-1752) and promoted, between 1754 and 1764, the Italian translation of Antoine Banier’s La mythologie et les fables expliquées par l’histoire (Paris 1738- 1740), a famous treatise on mythology based on Euhemeristic theory. This article examines the formation and misfortune of the Neapolitan translation that wanted to take advantage of the opportunity of the excavations of Herculaneum, but proposes itself for much larger spaces.
