On the basis of the testimonies of Seneca the Elder, Tacitus and Suetonius, dating from Augustus to the Flavian emperors, the paper deals with the cases in which the violence against written texts turned into physical violence exercised or induced on their authors. The fact that these were orations and historiographical works testifies both a large political and cultural distress, and the degree of dangerousness attributed to them by the political power.

Abstract
On the basis of the testimonies of Seneca the Elder, Tacitus and Suetonius, dating from Augustus to the Flavian emperors, the paper deals with the cases in which the violence against written texts turned into physical violence exercised or induced on their authors. The fact that these were orations and historiographical works testifies both a large political and cultural distress, and the degree of dangerousness attributed to them by the political power.File in questo prodotto:
