This paper is a commentary of Cordero’s reading of Plato’s Sophist 240. In the Sophist the Stranger is astounded by the existence of not being. The key- word of the debate is eidolon (image). The existence of the image, in fact, involves the existence of non-being, because the image is μὴ ἀληθινὸν, ἐναντίον ἀληθοῦς (240b5). It is something that is not true, the opposite of the truth. The image should not exist, but it exists. This section of the dialogue is a very aporetic one: although many scholars have tried to modify the text, Cordero defends the reading of the manuscripts.

Abstract
This paper is a commentary of Cordero’s reading of Plato’s Sophist 240. In the Sophist the Stranger is astounded by the existence of not being. The key- word of the debate is eidolon (image). The existence of the image, in fact, involves the existence of non-being, because the image is μὴ ἀληθινὸν, ἐναντίον ἀληθοῦς (240b5). It is something that is not true, the opposite of the truth. The image should not exist, but it exists. This section of the dialogue is a very aporetic one: although many scholars have tried to modify the text, Cordero defends the reading of the manuscripts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
