This paper follows up on two previous studies (Albano Leoni 2015, Albano Leoni e Dovetto 2017) which examined a corpus of approximately 600 photographs of funeral (or obituary) posters appearing in the city and province of Naples, in which the name of the deceased is accompanied by his or her nickname in dialect. The present study focuses on the designations of arts, crafts and trades, frequently used in the nicknames as identifiers. These reveal traces of a parallel social texture and occupational world without equivalent elsewhere in metropolitan Europe and still alive at the outset of the Third Millennium. The archaic features will be analyzed (graunar, cuzzcar), as well as the signs of modernization (carruzziere) and feminine forms (gassusara, purtuallar).
