The aim of this research is to collect a first selection of references about the death of the ancient philosophers in the biographical tradition. The anecdotal material is the base of a future study about the correlation between biography and philosophy. This correlation is strong and clear in Diogenes Laertius’use of various deaths to illustrate and exemplify philosophy, morals and the beliefs of the subjects.
