This paper takes into account the way the learned man evaluates the cultural and linguistic diversity of the barbarian during the fifth and sixth centuries. This is generally marked by a wish to revive a process of identity based on the strengthening of his own roots and tradition, which are the same that had formed the very basis of Romanitas throughout the centuries.
