The article investigates the relationship between G.Vasari and his master Andrea del Sarto through written and visual sources. It clarifies some unprecedentedly ambiguous passages of XVIth century texts and shows how the development of Vasari's art can be understood also in the light of his contradictory relationship with the model of Andrea. In the review of the catalogue (Burlington Magazine N. 1305, 2011) the article received a particular mention for the innovative results.
