The major and minor basins of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano (PNCVD), are investigated to verify the presence of species of Community interest, the lampreys and freshwater crayfish. It 'was found and documented the presence of brook lamprey in the major basins of PNCVD: Calore, Mingardo and Bussento rivers. The shrimp is found only in the rivers Bussento, Bussentino, in a downstream section of the dam Sabetta. Well-structured populations have been found in several sites including one located upstream of the power plant Morigerati. Researches in rivers have produced only brook lampreys, and a few old reports of sea lamprey in coastal areas related to PNCVD. The brook lamprey is very well structured in large sections of the rivers Calore, Ripiti, Fasanella and Bussento, while in river Mingardo a small population was found only in the Devil's Gorge below the abandoned town of San Severino. The analysis of the samples generally confirm, the larval life of 4 ! years, except for Calore were apparently is of 3 ! years. The altitudinal range of the population varies from about 50 m to 450 m above sea level. The termal linits in the Calore varies from about 8-10 ° C in winter and 27 ° C in summer. The dimensions and weights achieved of ammoceti at 4 th stage are 160-170 mm and 6-7 g respectively for the Calore and Fasanella, and 180 mm and 10 g for the Mingardo. Genetic analysis revealed the existence of unique haplotypes, geographically isolated from other populations of the species and mostly confined to localized portions of the streams surveyed. They are therefore extremely vulnerable and may be at risk of extinction if they are not put in place effective conservation action.
