Our hypothesis is that the pandemic, as the set of these exceptional conditions concerning some specific developmental tasks, has caused in young people the appearance of internalizing symptoms (anxiety, depression and stress) related to their time management, relationship with the future and evaluation of the meaning attributed to life (an important distinctive feature of mental health),considering the Italy-Mexico contextual variable. The preliminary results of the study suggest that in Mexican late adolescents the presence of meaning in life and a positive vision of the future are able to reduce internalizing symptoms, while for Italians the search for meaning and purpose increases depressive symptoms. The evidence of this study provides clear indications on cross-cultural differences in the vision of the future and in the meaning of life, underlining how these can be central to interventions reducing internalizing symptoms.
