This article outlines an exegetical method applicable to the technical-scientific language employed in Epicurus’ On Nature. The author addresses the question of the immobility (mone) of the earth in light of a passage from Book XI of On Nature devoted to the study of celestial and meteorological phenomena, reconstructing the meaning of a key term used by Epicurus, pyknotes, ‘density’, and related words through an examination of the various contexts in which they occur within Epicurus’ corpus.
