Il complesso delle Terme di Baia nel Parco Archeologico dei Campi Flegrei: strategie di restauro e miglioramento della fruizione

The essay presents the results of some research experiences carried out in the field of archi tectural restoration on the archaeological evidence of the Terme di Baia complex. Starting from the analysis of the Phlegraean territory in its complexity, this essay deepens specific aspects of the restoration of the fragile archaeological material and the strategies for the physical and cultural reconnection of the Bahian complexes in order to implement the levels of use through enhancement actions. The vast thermal complex of Baia is divided into five distinct sectors that represent archaeological evidence similar to materials and construction techniques, typical of the Phlegraean modus aedificandi, but profoundly di!erent in morphological characteristics and evidence of belonging to di!erent chronological phases. The temporal stratification of the palimpsest is recognizable in the di!erent layers on which the complex of the Baths of Baia is divided, as well as in the planimetric development which, following various positions, was neglected by the inclusion of contemporary paths and infrastructures. An example of these criticalities is the Diana sector which, today, presents problems of connection with the context, being beyond the railway line, a real element of discontinuity in the perceptual and morphological perception of the entire site.
