The essay presents a reflection on public space in the fringe areas between consolidated cities. Using a case study, that is the area between San Giorgio a Cremano and Portici in the Vesuvian coast, a project proposal is outlined that recognizes public space as a system of urban places in which social and formal differences that inhabit and structure the edges of the cities can meet. The aim is to pres- ent a methodology for intervention in similar contexts.
