The present study analyzes the section of Apoc.Ad. (V, 5) 78, 19-79, 19 in light of Rev 12. Certain symbolic elements common to the two visionary texts—the motherhood, the childbirth, the desert, the water—appear as streams of transmission oscillating between orality and literacy; as such, they are put at the service of specific communicative and socio-cultural functions. Rev 12, more specifically, helps to understand the salvific function attributed to the phōstēr in Apoc.Ad. 78, 19-79, 19. The questions posed in the text by the third and fourth realms refer to elements inherent in the origin of the phōstēr which, from the perspective of the text, must be rejected. The text of Rev 12, in particular, appears to be diriment in determining one aspect of the provenance of the phōstēr from the primeval Israel, which according to Apoc.Ad. should be discarded in light of its Sethian identity.

Abstract
The text of Rev 12, in particular, appears to be diriment in determining one aspect of the provenance of the phōstēr from the primeval Israel, which according to Apoc.Ad. should be discarded in light of its Sethian identity.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
