Abstract

The redevelopment and enhancement of our modern architectural heri- tage, or indeed the built fabric in general, requires application of innovative meth- odologies and technologies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Progress in these areas requires a basis in the pre-existing in-depth technical and cultural knowledge of that same heritage. In particular, we must have access to the design and management documents of the residential fabric that have been depos- ited with and are still held by the archives of our local and regional housing agen- cies. This requires that we develop digital platforms, capable of networking with other public and private archival sources, in dialogue with all users, in order to provide truly useful access. The current contribution reports the experimental development of a digital plat- form accessing the archives of the IACP (Istituto Autonomo Case Popolari), institu- tion for social housing of the Province of Naples capable of serving as a preliminary knowledge tool for the technological and environmental redevelopment of social housing. The project reported has proceeded on the basis of funds from the Region of Campania and human and technical resources from Docomomo Italia, the Campania Agency for Social Housing (ACER), University of Naples ‘Federico II’ and University of Campania ‘Vanvitelli’. The aim has been to develop replicable systems for the selection, reordering and insertion of archival materials in a web application accessible to the internal staff, but also to scholars, other public bodies and not least, the professionals engaged in the projects of redevelopment and enhancement. In this case, the focus is on post-World War II social housing in the city and province of Naples.
