Physical therapy (PT) has been acknowledged as an important adjuvant therapy for orofacial pain-including temporomandibular disorders (TMD), headaches, and other related conditions in the craniomandibular system-because of its simplicity and noninvasive nature. This chapter reviews recent advances in research addressing the effectiveness of PT for orofacial pain conditions. It is divided into four major areas, including physical therapy for TMD, headaches, neck disorders, and other orofacial pain conditions. Given the extensive literature on the effectiveness of PT for TMD from systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials (RCTs), this chapter focuses mainly on this condition.
