The essay aims to delve into Romano Guardini’s ethical vision in close connection with the overall framework of his thought. In particular, the essay starts from the reference to Guardini’s early works, his vision of polar opposition and the person, to demonstrate how the ethical dimension is a constant element in his thinking. This dimension is further developed in his Monacensi Lectures of the second post-war period (later compiled in the posthumously published volume Ethik), which represent a decisive culmination point, clearly illustrating the centrality of concepts such as good, conscience, and responsibility.

Abstract

The essay aims to delve into Romano Guardini’s ethical vision in close connection with the overall framework of his thought. In particular, the essay starts from the reference to Guardini’s early works, his vision of polar opposition and the person, to demonstrate how the ethical dimension is a constant element in his thinking. This dimension is further developed in his Monacensi Lectures of the second post-war period (later compiled in the posthumously published volume Ethik), which represent a decisive culmination point, clearly illustrating the centrality of concepts such as good, conscience, and responsibility.
