The collaborative Marzamemi Maritime Heritage Project brings together excavation, survey, and valorization of maritime heritage in southeast Sicily. Investigations re-evaluated and con-textualized the famous ‘church wreck’. Through a combination of research and engagement expanded to the broader material record of maritime life with and on these waters – from the industrial and nautical architecture of historic tuna fishing to the boats and assemblages of contemporary Mediterranean migration – our work compares past, present and future of lives spent in the heart of this ‘Middle Sea’.
