Drawing on recent approaches to citizenship from political (Honig, Isin, Balibar), legal (Costa, Kochenov) and urban (Sassen, Bauböck, Beauregard) studies and following the rising attention for human rights city (Grigolo, Oomen), I offer a critical reconstruction of potentialities and contradictions of the idea of urban citizenship as a test for addressing gaps and inequalities in increasingly urban societies.
