This paper explores the multiple ways in which places and landscapes are portrayed in Apollonius of Rhodes’ Argonautica. Many different lands parade under the eyes of Jason and his comrades as they sail on the Argo. As an epic of travel, the Argonautica contains a huge number of geographical descriptions. Places and landscapes also feature in passages marking the hours of the day and in similes. A dazzling panoramic view of the Earth from the sky is found in a passage about Eros.
