There is currently a lack of knowledge on legislation and practices regarding the social reuse of confiscated assets in the EU. This Chapter aims to respond to the following questions: which Member States envisage the social reuse of confiscated assets? Could other Member States adopt it and, if so, under which conditions? Based on the lessons learnt from current social reuse experiences, which European standards could be suggested for it? In answering these questions, it presents the results of the EU funded project RECAST - REuse of Confiscated Assets for social purposes: towards common EU Standards.
