In this paper I argue that the most salient features of ἀρετή, the definition of which is hard to find, controversial, and disputable at an explicit level, can be strongly inferred at an implicit level from these images which act as symbols. To show this, I will consider the bee imagery in the following contexts. Starting with Plato’s Meno 72a-b, where the bee imagery is clearly associated with excellence, I will turn my attention to Plato’s employment of images, like that of a swarm.

Abstract
In this paper I argue that the most salient features of ἀρετή, the definition of which is hard to find, controversial, and disputable at an explicit level, can be strongly inferred at an implicit level from these images which act as symbols. To show this, I will consider the bee imagery in the following contexts. Starting with Plato’s Meno 72a-b, where the bee imagery is clearly associated with excellence, I will turn my attention to Plato’s employment of images, like that of a swarm.File in questo prodotto:
