Abstract

The pandemic that swept the world starting last year has highlighted a new role for the insurance sector, which is called to become a key player in financing and supporting the economic recovery, with a view to reconciling sustainability and risk coverage. The Principles for Sustainable Insurance (Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, n.d.) diffused in 2012, according to which the insurance sector is invited to follow an holistic approach to manage global and emerging risks in business, from climate change to natural disaster, today take on a new connotation in the light of the pandemic we are experiencing. The Chapter presents a proposal for a securitization scheme of the pandemic risk.
