What is democracy? What is the populism?Apparently both of this terms are easy to explain but they presents a lot of nunaces that is impossible to give an univoque definition. Democracy is an ancient system but today is probably better to speak about constitutional democracy which is the results of combination of liberal democracy , and social democracy. The contemporary liberal democracies morevoer , is not a conclusive definition of democracy – as C. Crunh observed – because it is an historical contingent form But there is uncontroversial point that caracterizes the constitutional democracy: separation of powers; rule of law ; guarantee of fundamental rights. The term populism, instead, has a not a clear definition and as Laclau clarifies there is not an exclusive and pure populism but a variety of meanings which depends on the movements and parties that are in opposition to the established power It is difficult to simplfy very different experiences . But it’ is clear that populism determines an an authoritarian involution in countries with very variuos traditions. Poland, Hungary Turkey are involved in this process but also the most mature democracies such as USA during the Trumpian era and President Modi’s India should be classified in this trend.
