Abstract

In 2004, the Municipal Plan of Naples (PRG) had as its main project the creation of a Neapolitan green infrastructures. The Neapolitan territory, very complex from an orographic point of view, has many green areas but difficult to reach and often even perceptible. The historic parks, the parks of the postearthquake reconstruction, of the Metropolitan Park of the Hills of Naples formed the various Neapolitan public facilities, which are improperly called 'parks'. They are also a resource that is not always fully exploited. In recent times, the poor maintenance of the tree vegetation in these so called “parks” has brought to light problems of public safety. Yet these areas, especially after Covid, can also represent real opportunities to promote cultural and social events. The accessibility project to large historical parks (not to mention the centrality in tourism-cultural policies) should become one of the main objectives of the city of Naples through the construction of urban green infrastructures, or rather the networking of large green areas by creating easy-to-access routes. In this context, the paper analyses the main Neapolitan historical parks, focusing in particular on the Capodimonte Royal Park: indeed the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II engaged in a research coordinated by Professor Mario Losasso in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Economics, Management, Institutions, Computer Engineering and Social Sciences of the Neapolitan University. The Capodimonte Royal Park is the largest urban park in Italy but has a main problem of accessibility; this paper is focused on this issue carrying out an analysis and proposing a design hypothesis to improve the connection between the park and the historic center.
