This paper's purpose is to offer an overview of the changes that occurred in the settlement pattern of the upper Tigris river valley – that is the area between the modern town of Bismil and the confluence of the Tigris river with the Bohtan Su – from the Neolithic to the Hellenistic period, based on the results of a series of small to large-scale regional surveys and excavations data.
