The New Perspectives of Dewey’s Influence in Italy in the XXIst Century

Dewey’s ideas, and in particular his pedagogical thought, exerted a stronger influence on Italian culture after 1945 with the conclusion of the Second World War and the establishment, through a popular referendum in 1946, of the democratic republic . Indeed, the years between 1945 and 1950 brought a decisive change in the domestic order, both economic and political, with Italy increasingly linked with the American model and involved in a comprehensive process of post-war reconstruction and a resumption of democratic life after twenty years of Fascism. This political transformation provided the stimulus for an intense cultural revolution with a profound revision of artistic, educational, historiographical, literary, philosophical and political models.
