The subjunctive is at the center of metaoperational phenomena from the moment of enunciation. An essential feature that distinguishes it from the other modes is that it presents the information as acquired by the context. It is a non-informative mode that serves the enunciator to refer to the predicative relation without providing new information about the subject of the verb. The other way around, with verbs in the indicative, the enunciator provides new information about the subject of each predicative relation. According to many studies, the -RA form has a certain tendency to their old modal indicative values, differently from the subjunctive form in -SE, and tends to replace the conditional in the protasis of unreal conditional sentences and to express a potentiality of an action. This similarity with the conditional in these contexts could explain the reason why the -RÍA form has been classified, for centuries, as an imperfect subjunctive together with the form in -RA and -SE, put who share this potentiality factor.

Abstract
This similarity with the conditional in these contexts could explain the reason why the -RÍA form has been classified, for centuries, as an imperfect subjunctive together with the form in -RA and -SE, put who share this potentiality factor.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
