Repertori e usi linguistici di emigrati italiani ai due lati dell'oceano

The paper focuses on perceived competencies and uses of Italian, Italian dialect and English by migrants settled in Toronto (Ontario) and London (UK) in order to verify if and to what extend the different context of immigration can have an impact on these linguistic variables. The survey is based on a questionnaire on language use and perceived competence. The results show a deep variation, only partially due to the different way migrants integrated in each context: in fact migrants' personal details such as age and level of education are the most significant variables capable of having an impact on (perceived) language use.
