Technological research and design are called to assume responsibilities that exceed the usual boundaries of the specialist approach to achieve more complex and global objectives, the latter not belonging to a single field. of study, but rather crossing though different disciplines. The request at responding to the present challenges leads technology and design to occupy the research border areas, where there are great opportunities for implementing plural intelligence practices that can «adaptively accompany the [technological, Ed] thinking about changes and challenges encountered in its history» (Di Biase, 2016, pp. 169). In this area, technology seems to play a key role, not only for the increasingly sophisticated instrumental equipment but also for the ability to manage the heuristic processes that keep imagination and innovation together. The “Great Pirates” age, as foreseen by Buckminster Fuller in 1969, has probably arrived and this is the moment in which such “visionary navigators” must deal with our complex present.
