The paper examines a specific diegetic point of Pontano’s De hortis Hesperidum (I 100-124), which tells in mythical terms the spread of citrus fruits in the area of Gaeta, Formia, Amalfi, Sorrento, highlighting the contribution of mythographic sources in Pontano’s mythopoietic practices. It also brings out the proleptic function of these verses compared to other passages of the poem with an etiological content, in particular with I 166-188; 335-369; II 230-239.
