Architecture materializes in a deined space bounded by the ground, from which structures raise, and by the sky above. It belongs to the Mellomrom, a Norwegian term that identiies a space in between in which the continuous research for an horizon often leads to deine space through a manipulation of the horizontal limits. This way of thinking about the project, typical of the Nordic architectural design, represents a fundamental step of the origin of construction, a practice recognizable also in nature. The space between heaven and earth is the place of living, is an area of public and private relationship, open or enclosed by walls, where to experience the daily life. Therefore architecture takes shape through both the level of deinition of its size, which welcomes inhabiting, and the level that protects and shelters life from climatic hostile conditions. Stay on the earth means live on it. Stay on the earth means, as Martin Heidegger said, be “under heaven” and inhabiting, therefore it also means to be able to build interiors: little personal cosmos in which ind oneself while at the same time be open to the world; places where horizontal margins, constitutive shaping elements of the architectural interior, can contribute to the quality and comfort of individuals’ life.
