Abstract

The traditional economic theory is focused on a particular type of firm profit maximizing and for which labour is only a production factor without any social characteristic. But, in any interpersonal relation, also on the workplace, identity and sociality have a rule and the evaluation of these aspects can change productive performance of labor factor and the objective functions of firms in the case workers have governance power as in worker cooperatives. We show that the influence of social variables in worker cooperatives can modify the constraints of the maximizing function of the firm and, in relation to the macroeconomic scenario, the objective of the firm can be the maximization of income per worker or the stabilization of the level of employment.
