ABOUT MIGRATION FLOWS. A Sociological Approach to Identity and Cultural Diversity

The thesis of this article is that in order to better understand vital aspects of migration, i. e. their political implications and social consequences, we need to stress the importance of the building of individual identity as related to the membership to different human and social groups that. Following this sociological and psycho-sociological point of view, the first part of the article (i.e. paragraphs two, three, four, and five) will focus on migration flows into Europe in the period of 2015-2018 and will look at the case of Italy in particular as Italy received the majority of all migrants and asylum seekers arriving in the European countries. It will analyze the data about fluxes in terms of routes into Europe/ Italy, (geographical) starting points and characteristics of migrant groups involved; the majority of arrivals in Italy being of migrants from Sub-Saharan countries different cultural backgrounds and social. It will analyze the concepts of and, in addition, the different forms of stereotypes (i. e. its cognitive functions and discriminatory effects). Focusing on several fundamental aspects of inter- ethnic relations, and based on available data on the social perception of the management or regulation of migration, the review aims to provide some theoretical elements to think about the fundamental and individual motives of heterophobia. Starting from recognitions of different forms of as historically significant, the second part of the article tries to understand solutions are possible in order to consider not as a threat but, on the contrary, as a new human and social resource.
