we provide laboratory evidence on the determinants of firms' R&D activities by focusing on two main issues, i.e. the identification of factors that foster firms' willingness to carry on such activities in a cooperative fashion, the way to efficiently target public subsidies to support such activities in markets characterized by varying degrees of market competition and spillovers.
