In Pontano’s eclogue Lepidina we find in the guise of the nymph Crambane the mythological transfiguration of an ancient toponym of the Vesuvian area, that is Crambane or Crambanum, which designated a portion of the territory of the current City of San Giorgio a Cremano. The essay aims to support historical research to define the relevance of this inhabited center in the second half of the fifteenth century. Crambane's literary transfiguration provides, as documentation extrapolated from a non-specifically documentary context and alongside the archival documents themselves, an interesting proof of the auxiliary functionality of the literature compared to other disciplines.

Abstract
In Pontano’s eclogue Lepidina we find in the guise of the nymph Crambane the mythological transfiguration of an ancient toponym of the Vesuvian area, that is Crambane or Crambanum, which designated a portion of the territory of the current City of San Giorgio a Cremano. The essay aims to support historical research to define the relevance of this inhabited center in the second half of the fifteenth century. Crambane's literary transfiguration provides, as documentation extrapolated from a non-specifically documentary context and alongside the archival documents themselves, an interesting proof of the auxiliary functionality of the literature compared to other disciplines.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
