Abstract

The Georgics is the structural and stylistic model in Pontano’s Urania, which praises Virgil not only as genius loci of Pontanus’ singing in his estate on Posillipo but also as the protagonist of a myth on his being destined to live in Naples, a destiny reiterated by Pontano centuries later. Keystone of a literary and ideological system within Latin humanistic poetry, Virgil is moreover envisaged in the proemium of book V as the medium to the reinvention of the homeric source of all poetry.
