Cilento Portraits. Planning a Smart Land through Images

The essay seeks to reconstruct the common thread running through the collective images informing the contemporary cultural landscapes of Cilento. Within Cilento territory, we can distinguish groups of distinct images. The first group includes images used to encourage tourist colonization of the coast from the mid-1950s onward. To the second group belong images that are the result of how this imaging process has been absorbed through everyday practices. Then, there are images of the area promoted by recent institutional policies, from Territorial Pacts to the National Strategy for Inner Areas of Italy. The local development process set under way since twenty years was able to provide the construction of new community images, through experiences of social innovation competent to revisit local culture, that the planner should be able to catch and to work with.
