In the construction of the Phlegrean Fields’s Park some very significant areas can be identified, under the historical-archaeological and landscape profile, but also from the point of view of the current territorial configuration. The project area is located in a perfect triangle, whose vertices are the Montagna Spaccata, the ancient Amphitheatres and the Stadium, located on a terrace at an intermediate level, that distinguishes the old town from the contemporary one. From the open inland territory, through the Montagna Spaccata, it is possible to enter in Pozzuoli and cross the Via Campana area, where there are important Roman Necropolis, between volcanoes, and from there it is possible to reach the Quadrivio of Annunziata and the terrace at an intermediate level of Pozzuoli. The identified area can be a cultural and functional wedge at the metropolitan level, a particular access to the Phlegrean Fields’ archaeological park, based on an interrelation’s logic between archaeological areas and other urban materials and landscape. The archaeological map of Puteoli is in continuous evolution and it becomes even more interesting when the remains are overlapped to contemporary settlements: ruined landscapes and partially destroyed ones arise, but even in the most difficult situations it is possible to grasp relationships for designing a project for the area. In this perspective, bearing in mind the archaeological specificities, the design theme can’t be finalized to the construction of an itinerary, intended as a connection between very important points. The itinerary must be reinterpreted as an articulated weaving, which, on one hand, is inherent in the specific nature of the area, although it is not always recognizable, on the other hand, it represents its “link” and, in this case, can be defined as infrastructural.

Abstract

In this park with different features, the most significant specificity is the archaeological one and, in this way, the work focused on the updating of the Pozzuoli archaeological map, identifying 250 concentration’s points of various types of artifacts.
