The Chapter describes the relationship between the Lgbt population and urban societies, with particular emphasis on the sociological research on the subject. This chapter also introduces the theory of rainbow city (Corbisiero, 2013), explaining it through the model of urban inclusiveness. The chapter suggests how little attention is paid to the Lgbt population by Italian sociology, stressing the huge potential sociology possesses for the understanding of sexual diversity in contemporary Italy.
