The numerous archaeological remains distributed over the territory of Campi Flegrei (Phlegraean Fields) bear witness to a prosperous past and the presence of rich civilizations, the history of which cannot be separated from the geological and volcanic events that have taken place, resulting in deep transformations, returning an unicum of archaeological and landscape-environment of extraordinary interest. However, in recent times, neither the richness of the landscape nor the economic development deriving from summer tourism has resulted in an adequate promotion of the territory which, instead, can result from a renewed knowledge of the value of cultural heritage and from a new awareness of its potential. The spread of knowledge in the Internet, and the introduction of new methods of using archaeological assets can, instead, prompt an implicit process of growth and territorial promotion. Consequently, a fact-finding system for the area of Campi Flegrei has been configured, structured on different levels of information, realized through documentary research and direct and instrumental surveys, with a view to preparing an interactive map to identify and define alternative tourism routes which is able to trigger mechanisms to promote and enhance the archaeological heritage. Surveying and representation methods have been experimented which can read and effectively represent the complexity of areas characterized by the presence of archaeological sites and, at the same time, the potential of the techniques of interactive representation including immersive shoots and AR systems have been verified, with the goal of identifying new methods of spreading knowledge to enhance cultural assets.
