Project objectives: 1) To define an operative protocol for agriculture-based bioremediation of contaminated agricultural soils in the NIPS (National Interest Priority Site) “Litorale Domitio-Agro Aversano”, that will be used by regional administrators and/or farmers in other polluted area too. 2) To demonstrate the effects of this protocol in specific pollluted areas that have been selected by the mayors of the Municipalities of Trentola-Ducenta (a 4500 m2 area bordering the landfill Taverna del re with organic and metal pollution), Castel Volturno (a public 5000 m2 retro-dunal area called soglietelle near "laghetti di Castel Volturno" polluted by metals from shooting range) and Teverola (a public 3000 m2 area of a site for temporary storage of urban wastes). The project could use a further site (a private 3300 m2 agricultural area at Acerra in locality called Frassitelli polluted by metals from compost and industrial sludges spreading), where bioremediation program is already started in 2009. 3) To support farmers with regulatory and financial tools aimed to improve the reclamation of degraded agricultural soils and restore agronomic fertility, multi-functionality and landscape identity. 4) To create an operative link between the technical-scientific protocols produced by ECOREMED project and the administrative tools for territory government at different levels (Municipal and Regional) through information activities and technical assistance to local authorities. 5) To define a set of indicators for monitoring environmental quality that could be used in environmental regulatory framework 6) To make public, technicians, experts, farmers and administrators aware of soil pollution importance and of the possiblities of bioremediation in a framework of environmental and economical sustainability.
