Unemployed in search of representation: the long-lasting story of "Movimento dei disoccupati organizzati" in Naples

The representation of the unemployed has been historically a problem difficult to face for trade unions. Due to a heavy decline of the ability of the unions to represent the increasingly complex world of work, the situation for the representation of unemployed and precarious workers has worsened in the last 30 years. On the other hand the union representation is not the only form of representation of the unemployed. There have been in various historical moments and in various countries spontaneous forms of representation with different types of relations with the national unions. Another main question concerns the forms of organization of the unemployed and of non-standard workers within the unions. The case of Naples and of the "Movimento disoccupati organizzati" can be useful in order to understand the issues of organization and representation of the unemployed and non-standard workers on other areas.
