Abstract

The paper testifies a collaborative scientific effort between academics from Pakistan and Italy, to connect preservation procedures to the specificities of the archaeological built heritage in Pakistan. In spring 2013, the COMSATS Institute of Information of Islamabad, started an educational camp at the Manikyala Stupa. The site, which is among the richest and vulnerable in Pakistan, welcomed students and faculty members for a detailed evaluation of the constructive elements and materials. Assuming that ruins never close their life cycle, the experience of the educa-tional camp was based on the concept of rethinking the design choices and technological solu-tions to enhance the intrinsic characteristics of the site and witnessed values. The study identifies elements and classifies the decay and proposes a suitable model to es-tablish an integrated protocol for investigating ancient stupas in Pakistan.
