Many collections of Italian folk songs (e.g. Pitrè’s Canti popolari siciliani, Leydi’s Canti sociali italiani, Croce’s Canti politici del popolo napoletano, Pasolini’s Canzoniere italiano) include a large number of social and political songs of the Risorgimento. These songs, genuine expression of popular interpretation of the events that led to the unity, provide an image with no ideological filter of the unifying process: they represent a point of view “different”, that of the majority of Italian society which the alliance between monarchy and bourgeois class excluded from the political action.

Many collections of Italian folk songs (e.g. Pitrè’s Canti popolari siciliani, Leydi’s Canti sociali italiani, Croce’s Canti politici del popolo napoletano, Pasolini’s Canzoniere italiano) include a large number of social and political songs of the Risorgimento. These songs, genuine expression of popular interpretation of the events that led to the unity, provide an image with no ideological filter of the unifying process: they represent a point of view “different”, that of the majority of Italian society which the alliance between monarchy and bourgeois class excluded from the political action.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
