Nowadays the concept of smart city is a famous label used in many projects regarding the implementation of new technologies in urban contexts with the intent of improving citizens' quality of life and people's experiences of city services. This approach has given space to the proposal of several models composed by ifferent drivers: these so called cities' critical components have to interact in order to create strong boundaries between the opportunities provided by information and communication technologies and the urban stakeholders (such as citizens, institutions, enterprises, tourists). We have selected the most implemented models and we have analysed the role of the different drivers, in particular we have tried to underline the role of culture and cultural heritage as an important component or even as the starting point of the smart city project.
