Cryogenic detectors based on superconducting-normal phase transition of a thin films are particularly interesting for their potential application in high energy physics experiments. In this paper we discuss results concerning the response of a narrow strip of NbVN irradiated by low energy X-rays. We observed voltage pulses induced by a Fe-55 6 Kev X-ray source in a current biased 2 mu m wide detector operating at 1.4 K. An efficiency of almost 60% was estimated at bias current higher than 0.7 Ic.

Abstract

Cryogenic detectors based on superconducting-normal phase transition of a thin films are particularly interesting for their potential application in high energy physics experiments. In this paper we discuss results concerning the response of a narrow strip of NbVN irradiated by low energy X-rays. We observed voltage pulses induced by a Fe-55 6 Kev X-ray source in a current biased 2 mu m wide detector operating at 1.4 K. An efficiency of almost 60% was estimated at bias current higher than 0.7 Ic.
